"The staff from a local veterinary clinic (at the site) had already done several tests, and they confirmed that the rabbits were healthy," he told La Prensa. Argentina has one of the highest rabbit population densities in the world, according to official statistics. About 18,000 rabbits roam in Argentina's wildest cities. Human meat and rabbit in circulation Animal rights groups have accused Argentines of growing accustomed to eating rabbit from farms. They say there are also "very bad" practices. In 2012, then president Cristina FernÃ¡ndez de Kirchner signed an agreement with the Argentine government which prohibited the sale of meat and food items made from wild animals. Argentina is ranked among the 11 most meat-poor nations in the world and is ranked as one of the worst for animal welfare and poor living conditions. The report states: "It is quite certain that, in the absence of international law to protect wildlife from cruel exploitation, this country will continue to violate its own laws regarding the slaughter of wild animals." The report was commissioned by the Argentine Council for the Protection of Animals and the Environment.
